Fact or Fiction: Search engine position can be guaranteed

30 Jul

Oh so fiction. Search engine prominence is based on phrase being searched. For example, if you do a search for ‘advertising agency’ Jamison/McKay won’t come up. Ah, but if you search for: San Francisco Advertising Agency – BINGO! And that’s how you play the game. No responsible search engine marketer will GUARANTEE prominence for keywords that are commonly searched. Oh, and for the record – websites aren’t ranked; individual pages are ranked based on each page’s relevance to the search queries.

Bing + Yahoo gettin hitched?

28 Jul

Looks like a match made in heaven. Bing and Yahoo sitting in a Tree? K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a BAZILLION DOLLARS! This should have Google shakin’ in their boots. At least a little bit, anyway.

Is Twitter a fad? It could be.

22 Jul

Twitter has all the trappings of an Internet fad: exorbitant media coverage; celebrity endorsement; surging traffic numbers. And, according to Nielsen Online - a weak retention rate. Let’s face it. Twitter is great for celebrities and more important – their fans. Fans care what celebrities do whether that be taking out the trash, eating a pie or going for a walk. Do we think Twitter helps businesses? Depends on that business – but for the most part, naah. There’s a reason why 60% of Twitter members don’t come back. Twitter’s popularity won’t continue unless more users start to find the service compelling enough to keep coming back.

Getting & keeping customers for life.

21 Jul

Consistent implementation of a ’fantastic experience’ establishes systems in your business that generate revenue, maintain customer relationships and produces efficient and profitable work from you and your employees. Train your staff to always think: “What can I possibly do for this customer to make sure they will buy from us/use our service and tell all their friends and relatives about us?” Simple, but effective. Cheap, too.

Having a good product is great. But if you have a good product AND a good experience, not only will you have a customer for life, you will have the relatives and friends of the customer for life.

Facebook a haven for the middle-aged? You betcha!

17 Jul

According to a new study, the social-networking giant Facebook, has morphed into a virtual parlor for the middle aged. People 35 to 54 are now the biggest age group on the Web site, accounting for 28.2 percent of all U.S. users. Uhm, wait. So you’re telling me that I can advertise to an audience with disposable income as opposed to poor college folk? Done and done. We do a LOT of Facebook campaigns here at Jamison/McKay and the verdict is: we likey. Read more:

Google still rules

13 Jul

Does BING (Microsoft’s new web search engine) have what it takes to knock off Google? Uhm..not now. It’s creeping up in the numbers – but not enough at this point to warrant a substantial portion of our PPC budgest toward it. We’re definitely keeping an eye on it though.
